“Agro Bloom: Paper with Life” is an eco-innovative project that transforms agricultural residues such as straw into handmade paper embedded with seeds. These plantable papers are further crafted into useful products like bookmarks, greeting cards, envelopes, and art cards. The initiative not only reduces agricultural waste but also provides an eco-friendly alternative to conventional paper, fostering sustainability and creativity.
Objectives
● Reuse agricultural residues like straw to produce eco-friendly, plantable paper.
● Develop creative and marketable products such as bookmarks, envelopes, greeting cards, and art cards.
Achievements
● IAAS Nepal LC KU: Conducted training in Madan Asrit Technical Institute on 5th September, on sustainable paper-making for agriculture students.
● IAAS Nepal LC Gauradaha: Successfully prototyped and started producing bookmarks, envelopes, and art cards.
● The project’s products have been officially released as part of IAAS Nepal merchandise.
● Selected in the Youth Food Lab 2025 cohort, gaining international recognition.

“Feed the Need, Not the Bin” is an award-winning initiative of IAAS Nepal LC VKC, securing third prize at Project Summit 2024. The project aims to reduce food waste by converting surplus and unwanted produce into value-added products such as sun-dried fruits, vegetables, and other processed goods.
Objectives
● Organized an awareness workshop at Santaneshwor Vidya Mandir School on the environmental and health impacts of food waste.
● Conducted a hands-on mango jam preparation program at Valley Krishi Campus with 25 participants, producing 30 jars (350 ml each).

● Reduce food waste by transforming surplus produce into value-added products.
● Raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts of food waste.

Sweet Solution

Description
“Sweet Solution” is an innovative initiative of IAAS Nepal LC FoA Tikapur that transforms sugarcane bagasse—an often-discarded agricultural byproduct—into Cane Peat, a sustainable and eco-friendly growing medium. The project promotes waste management, greener agricultural practices, and empowers local communities, particularly women, through training and skill development.
Objectives
Produce sustainable growing media from sugarcane bagasse.
Test and validate cane peat efficiency for horticultural crops and soil amendment.
Empower local farmers, especially women, through training.
Achievements
Successfully produced cane peat after a six-month trial phase and validated its efficiency on cucurbit seeds.
Showcased the product prototype at NExCo, Lamjung, where it was auctioned and sold at 6 times the base price.
Conducted women-focused training sessions in Tikapur to promote cane peat adoption.

Trash to Treasure

Description
“Trash to Treasure” is a global project jointly implemented by IAAS Nepal LC AFU and LC Sindhuli. The project transforms agricultural residues — especially rice straw and maize husk — into eco-friendly handicrafts such as mats, baskets, chakati, pirka and decorative items. By turning agro-waste into valuable products, it helps reduce CO₂ emissions from open burning, addresses plastic and air pollution, revives traditional crafting techniques and empowers local communities through skill development and income generation. This project has also been exhibited at the Nepal Food Forum 2024, World Food Forum 2024, and selected as a Youth Food Lab 2024 cohort project.

● Transform agricultural waste (rice straw, maize husk) into sustainable handicrafts and useful products.
● Promote skill development and income generation for rural women and youth.
● Reduce environmental impacts of agro-residue burning while advancing circular economy practices.

The Trichovermi Project by IAAS Nepal LC ERC aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices through the integration of Trichoderma fungi into vermicomposting systems. The project’s goal is to transform agricultural waste into high-quality organic fertilizer enriched with beneficial microorganisms. This approach supports soil regeneration, improves crop productivity, and reduces dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. By combining vermicomposting—a proven waste management method using earthworms—with Trichoderma, known for its plant growth-promoting and biocontrol properties, the resulting compost is expected to provide enhanced nutrient availability and disease suppression.
